This golden, cheesy dish is not only a crowd pleaser, but is easy to prep the night before and pop it in the oven right before the party starts. All you need is a few ingredients you might already have laying around your kitchen and a quality baking dish, to have this delicious recipe at your next holiday get-together.
INGREDIENTS
5 to 6 rustic potatoes, peeled 1/2 of an onion, sliced 5 to 6 bacon slices2 1/2 cups of whole milk3 tablespoons of flour1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheeseChopped parsley for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1 | Preheat the oven to 350F and grease a baking dish. Boil potatoes and slice them into 1/2 inch slices. Chop onion and bacon in bit size pieces.
Step 2 | In a medium pan, cook the bacon for 5 minutes and drain the fat, add chopped onion and cook for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add flour, mix them until well coated. Add milk and cook on medium heat until sauce thickens. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Step 3 | In a baking dish arrange potatoes in a single layer on the bottom of the dish. Pour half of the sauce and arrange another layer of potatoes. Pour the remaining sauce to cover the second layer of potatoes and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.Step 4 | Bake for 30 minutes until top is golden brown. Serve with fresh chopped parsley.
